The Road is Frought with Human Error

In Hidden Number, News on August 23, 2011 at 3:28 am

The aptly named Human_Error tour is over, and we’ve finally had some time to catch our collective breath. Here is the saga.

The Human_Error Tour Must Have Errors

Loading the van

Loading the van

Error_1  The first job was to find some decent transportation. At one point, we were actually seriously considering installing a hitch on a Prius. But luckily we were able to borrow a Subaru Outback from some very dear family. Once we had the trailer loaded, which is an understatement since the trailer was twice the size of what we needed, the car would not shift out of park. I was thinking, Oh great, we’re not even going to be able to get on the road. But luckily Justin knew how to override the shifting mechanism and get us in gear. Things were getting very, very real.

Who is Justin? Why, he is our Touring Bassist, playlist dj, and Mechanic! The Joe Stuhff that we all know and love, is busy getting the Father of the Year Award for 2011. In fact his whole family was upgrading to some nicer diggs around the time of this tour. No more view of the Space Needle, but who needs that anyway when you get to give your youngest child a real bedroom? Joe is our hero. So is Justin, who Saved The Day several times. More on that later.

Error_2  We got lucky in the past by borrowing projectors so that we could show off Josh’s heartfelt and epic visual display. Yet no unlucky sap would volunteer for the tour. So we stopped off at Fry’s to grab a good projector at a good value (an Acer). The salesperson was extremely helpful. He loaded us down with a ton of accessories. Later, we would discover that the projector came with all the same accessories. This would become the first set of returns we would need to make after the tour. More on this later. After a sandwich and a smoothy, we loaded the car with a pallette of water, our new projector, and 4 fancy lads–and hit the open road for Portland.

More about the Human Error album:

  • It’s full of stars.
  • Shawn Diaz, a one-time guitarist and singer in the band, is back again as the designer.
  • Chris Unruh‘s magnificant artwork graces the cover.  You might recognize him from some of our previous show flyers.
  • Calla Donofrio‘s stunning art is nestled within.
  • Some albums come with some rules and a playing die for the game.
  • Unfortunately, due to some manufacturing limitations, fudge is not included.
  • You can hear the super top hit single inside our minds in advance right now.

Pre-orders are now being accepted for upcoming album, Human Error

In Events, Hidden Number, News on January 25, 2011 at 4:07 am

We are pleased to announce that pre-orders for our upcoming record, Human Error, are now being accepted over on our website.  Please help us pay for ordering the records!  We need your help!  We will not only reward you by printing your name in the album, but we are also providing some very special limited edition items as well.  We can hardly believe that the artwork of Chris Unrue and Calla Donofrio are included.

The deadline for the extra artwork and gratitude is February 15, 2011, so now’s the time to secure your place in space-time.

You can hear a sneak preview of a song off of Human Error named Midnight Beachboy, over on ReverbNation and on our facebook page.  Stay tuned for more background info about the album, as well as some chances to win some prizes.   You guys are why we do this, and we really want to give back to those who have weathered the past few years along with us.

And thusly we begin the countdown to the record release in April, 2011.

Action

In Hidden Number, News on December 10, 2010 at 4:20 pm

There’s some action over at the Hidden Number facebook page, regarding Dean’s sleeping habits. Equations and graphs are involved, and there is some boiling contraversy boiling for real.

Last night we did some final bounce downs to send over to the overseer of mastering. Feeling great about this go-round, and really proud to be delivering a new record next year on vinyl as is deserved.    We’ll put together some kind of fancy pre-sale package once our art is delivered and we can properly show you what’s what.

In the  meantime, Dean and Josh are working on a music video for David Lynch, filmed on the Seattle streets.  No guarantees that he’ll actually use it, but he’ll see it and then we’ll see if he takes it from there.  Good practice for future HN videos, ya think?  Of course, we have no problem with anyone making videos to our tunes willy nilly, if anyone’s interested.

~~ UPDATE ~~ Please take a look at the video and vote for it if you like it.  We need help spreading the word, and are very grateful for all the votes and comments so far!  With everyone’s help, Josh will be set to win!

But the puzzle quiz over on fb was so fun, that we’re going to do some more, and maybe offer some prizes next time.  We’ll see.  Any quiz puzzle question ideas to offer?

A poem for September

In Hidden Number, News, Random, Shout Outs on October 10, 2010 at 9:14 pm

In September we did not play

But steeled within the studio all day

And steadily mixed all of Side A.

Josh was listening to Beethoven

Dean was watching Mater Suspiria Vision (very NSFW!)

And Kai had many a drum lesson.

Now let us focus on Side B

And gather Staunts’ deft artistry

for March’s record release party

fin.

We leave you with this special remake (NSFW!)

… and happy birthday to Joe!

New song: Midnight Beachboy

In Hidden Number, News on June 3, 2010 at 11:52 pm

We submit for your approval, a new song full of otherworldly delights.  Hitherforeto, is our most recently written song, though there are more that are yet to be released.

This could be considered to be a song that Josh contributed to the most significantly to date, and also the song where we see Josh first reaching his full creative momentum in the band since he joined 2 years ago.  As mentioned in previous posts, we’re very happy for his contributions of creativity and fudge squares.  On a personal note, these are some of my favorite lyrics.  Dean toiled over those guilded words, and then toiled even further in his laboratory, mixing the tracks down and making our backing vocals sound human.  Many of the songs we have been posting lately will appear in an upcoming vinyl release.

We hope you enjoy, and please let us know what you think about this song!

New song: Fanged 2 Deth

In Hidden Number, News on February 14, 2010 at 3:44 am

Greetings music lovers.  Come forth one and all, and seek out the new track “Fanged 2 Deth”.  It is within the electric tubes, if ye only just seek it out.  What do you think?

Fanged 2 Deth by hiddennumber

This was recorded at Magnets Large & Small, where creativity is shackled and starved, and then suddenly set free and engorged in a smorgasbord of meats and grains and hugs.

Update ~~ The song is now streaming on Last.fm.

Josh quit the band

In Drunk Blogging, Hidden Number, News on November 21, 2009 at 4:35 am

to become a male model in Florida.  We reformed and are now called Strandskov, Stuhff, and Swanson.  Keep an eye out for our upcoming new album, “The Sun is Not Fun”, featuring the track “Go Suck on an Orange.”  We want to thank all our fans for the increased support now that he’s out of the picture.

We lied

In Hidden Number, News on September 23, 2009 at 11:10 pm

Is it just me, or are a lot of local bands going in a great direction right now?  My Bones and Organs comes to mind.  They keep adding slow and heaviness to their set, and I can’t get enough.  Well, last Friday we were called in by Brooker to do a surprise show at Rendezvous as part of the POST-grunge PDX-SEA Showcase (or, what I like to call the Showcase Showdown), and Greenriver Thrillers busted out some new material (or new to me) that upgraded their sound to be even more epic sounding.  So, it’s great to see things unfolding.  I think something’s about to explode.

Also great to hear Mongoloid Village bust out some excellent complicated and creative beats.  We were drunken talking about putting something together after the show, so perhaps we could do something in PDX, maybe with Drats or something.  We’ll see.

We ended the show with our own rendition of Young Liars by TV on the Radio:

Other random news:  We’re putting together some ideas for a video for (We’ll Never Be) Friends 4 Evr.  This won’t ever be completed, but when we die in a jet crash then someone should try to find it and complete it and make some money off of it.  And Joe has created offspring… and yet he pulls off the impossible black magic trick of continuing to rock.  Amazing.  Go Joe!

Thanks for coming out, and sorry Lanza for drowning you in my angst driven paranoid rant of nihilist cynacism.

Hey, anything we should cover at our next show?

New song ~ (we’ll never be) friends 4EvR

In Hidden Number, News on August 16, 2009 at 2:29 am

We just wanted to alert the intertubes that our new song “(we’ll never be) friends 4EvR” is ready for realtime streaming and gushing pleasures. Spread the word! This is an early pre-master version, recorded at our favorite studio Magnets Large & Small, but we want to start getting these in people’s hands asap. It’s been 2 years, right?  Additionally, you can find this song on iLike, Facebook, sonicbids, and (eventually) our main website [links to all of these are down at the very bottom of this blog].

This song is influenced by the usual amount of dread and loathing that we live in fear of, as usual.  Also note the use of Dean’s theramin, and the first major appearence of Josh in a Hidden Number recording.  Here is a picture by our friend, Winslow, as illustration.

So what do you think?  Do you like the direction we’re headed with this arrangement?

Update:  We’re now on SoundCloud ~
