We lied

In Hidden Number, News on September 23, 2009 at 11:10 pm

Is it just me, or are a lot of local bands going in a great direction right now?  My Bones and Organs comes to mind.  They keep adding slow and heaviness to their set, and I can’t get enough.  Well, last Friday we were called in by Brooker to do a surprise show at Rendezvous as part of the POST-grunge PDX-SEA Showcase (or, what I like to call the Showcase Showdown), and Greenriver Thrillers busted out some new material (or new to me) that upgraded their sound to be even more epic sounding.  So, it’s great to see things unfolding.  I think something’s about to explode.

Also great to hear Mongoloid Village bust out some excellent complicated and creative beats.  We were drunken talking about putting something together after the show, so perhaps we could do something in PDX, maybe with Drats or something.  We’ll see.

We ended the show with our own rendition of Young Liars by TV on the Radio:

Other random news:  We’re putting together some ideas for a video for (We’ll Never Be) Friends 4 Evr.  This won’t ever be completed, but when we die in a jet crash then someone should try to find it and complete it and make some money off of it.  And Joe has created offspring… and yet he pulls off the impossible black magic trick of continuing to rock.  Amazing.  Go Joe!

Thanks for coming out, and sorry Lanza for drowning you in my angst driven paranoid rant of nihilist cynacism.

Hey, anything we should cover at our next show?

The title sez it all.  Yet, dare I also mention that we’re  opening for My Bones and Organs and The Keeper?!  I dare.  Note the very excellent time on Sunday, which will give everyone plenty of time to get home so that they write that important report due Monday.  Please include charts and graphs.  How else will you stay competitive in this economic climate?  We are staying competitive by throwing in some Misfits songs in our set.

Dare I also direct you to a top notch video of our Tom Petty cover of “Don’t Come Around Here No More” posted by Chris?  Double dared.

We at Hidden Number hope your Independence Day (or plain vanilla Saturday) was a festive occasion.  A few of us spent time on the very boat from whence came Manos de Plata’s  brand new album, and watched the Seattle fireworks bobbing upon the waters of Lake Union.  We stood in the very chamber in the belly of the Sea Devil, and I double dog dare say that the reverb was palpable.  I hope you appreciate that the next time you listen.

June retrospective

In Events, Hidden Number, Reviews, Shout Outs on June 28, 2009 at 4:38 pm

Okay, so everyone is telling us that our previous show at the Nectar show was one of the best sounding shows we’ve had, so congratulations to the sound guy!  And a huge thank you to everyone who stuck around to the very end.  And let’s thank Mauricio, who set the whole thing up.  I’m sure your faces were in agony from all the laughs preceding us; not to mention being substantially exhausted from Canadian funnyman Brad Brake, who somehow ended up being shirtless in a thong by the end of the show, right?  Were we at the same show?  I’m pretty sure that’s what I was seeing, and it hurt.  How does one follow up that kind of energy?  By having an excellent sound system, and a professional running it.  I’m voting for this as my favorite venue to play at to date, although sometimes it’s all about the moment.  Anyway, Sir Christian Staunts got us on video, so we’re going to see if we can’t just jam that straight into the tubes, if you do not mind our endulgence.   So keep your RSS feed readers hungry and alert.

For those of you who are wondering what the heck happened in the middle of the set, that was Joe singing a song that we reserve only when Dean is under the influence of the BSOD (i.e. UIBSOD).  So that was in fact three never before heard ditties:  Mesopotamia (B-52s), Don’t Come Around Here No More (Tom Petty), and Untitled (Joe Stuhff).

Since the show, we were informed by Jim of an elequent review of the show  that adds some context to the evening’s festivities.

It was a great cap, to a productive month.  We’ve knocked out a substantial amount of drum & bass tracks, and are one session away from posting Friends 4 Ever publicly, because we like you.

Upcoming show:  We are grabbing a shift along side My Bones and Organs at the Sunset,  Sunday July 19th.  It’s an early show, but that’s good because it’s about time that you got some sleep before work on Monday, you loitering hooligan.

John Tesh

In Events, Hidden Number, News, Random on May 30, 2009 at 2:49 pm

So yeah, last night’s show ended up being dedicated to John Tesh.  Who saw that coming?   I didn’t catch it, but Jake told us later at hash brown town that in the middle of Human Error, Joe screamed “Teeeeeeeeeeeeeesh!” a la Wrath of Khan.

We talked to Datura Blues about some future shows, so good things.   PLUS, you just can’t go wrong with Malachi running your sound.  He’s like an audio talisman.  PLUS, we got Super Fan bringing the party.  Everybody wins.  And then Mark totally shows up with photos from the Josephine show and a VHS of our last gig with My Bones and Organs.   Let’s see if we’re not too shy to post any of it.

So yeah, not much else to talk about this time… Any ideas on future blog posts from us?  Anything you want to discuss.  The internet is your oyster.

Hidden Number live at the Jewel Box Theater (Rendezvous), March 5th, 2009, 10pm, $5, 21+
It’s been a while, but the tempura artichoke hearts just keep calling us back to the Jewel Box Theater.  That, and we get to chill with our buds

Smooth Sailing
My Bones and Organs

We’ll be playing a slightly more honed version of our new song, Midnight Beachboy.  Josh wrote it, so he can stay in our band.

In other news, we hung out with Brooker (from POST-grunge) last night to celebrate his birthday party, and it’s pretty shocking how large our community of bands, friends, and fans is growing.  It’s clear that we need to put together some more compilations, because it’s getting confusing how many side projects we’re all involved in.  Is there any kind of compilation you want to see?
